ETV, the public Serbian network operator, has just started the first Serbian DAB transmission trial on October 24 2018, from the Alvala transmission site close to Belgrade. For this first trial, ETV decided to reuse a former analogue VHF TV transmitter available on site, unused since the analogue switch-off.
To convert this analogue TV transmitter to DAB, ETV selected a TWISTER DAB exciter because of its easy integration into an existing transmitter, its high performance and its renowned conformance to the DAB standards. ETV got also support for integration and commissioning as well as some training about the DAB transmission system from TeamCast.
From October 24, 2018, the VHF DAB transmission is on-air and ETV can proceed with the field experiments in the Belgrade area. This field trial is expected to last a few months, and will allow ETV to prepare a wider deployment, which will rely in the upgrade of some other available analogue TV transmitters, as well as the investment in new transmitters.
“TeamCast provided us the necessary technology and support for having a simple and straightforward implementation of DAB on a first site. This was very helpful for us and we can now focus on the field trial itself,” says Jovan Zlatanovic from ETV.
“We are pleased to be selected by ETV for this first trial,” says Eric PINSON, Business Unit and Sales Manager at TeamCast. “This is the recognition that our exciters perfectly match the needs of operators when they wish to test new transmission systems or modernize their network while keeping risks and costs low,” Eric adds.
