Lawo’s Virtual Studio Manager has been the IP Broadcast Control System chosen by Sky Racing Australia for their Sydney and Melbourne sites. Sky Racing broadcasts more than 80,000 harness and greyhound races a year to 5,000 outlets in Australia and 51 additional countries through Internet, satellite, cable and mobile.
Sky Racing’s bet is composed by two medium size VSM systems with 6400 x 6400 crosspoints, DANTE Matrix control ports, DMX control and control of the video routers located in Sydney and Melbourne. Each system includes storage groups, vsmGadgets that permits the use of up to 500 third party parameters and 18 virtual vsmPanels.
The Sydney Frenchs Forest facility uses VSM in order to unify all legacy systems to prepare for their transformation to IP. It also provides centralized labeling of all the trace tracks within the control rooms, and IFB and tech talkback keys on RTS talkback panels. In the Collions Street (Melbourne) Tabcorp office, Lawo’s tool is used to manage the routing of the Race Day Control Room. It includes 18 desks, each with 3 Genelec 8010APM speakers with DANTE audio routed through VSM’s virtual control panels. The 54 Genelec Speakers were supplied by PAT along with a DANTE monitoring bridge.
“We are very happy with the ability to bring various manufacturers under one common control layer to streamline operational workflows without operators having to worry what underlying equipment is being controlled. Our staff can concentrate on the production task at hand and worry less about the underlying technology. PAT and Lawo have been great to work with and we see VSM as a clear way forward to allow our platforms to move from baseband into IP over the coming years”, said Dennis Dovale, Manager Media Technology of Sky Racing.
