The Turkish Broadcasting Corporation, along with the technical support of Globecast and Turksat, has announced the launch of TRT Arabi HD. The Europe and MENA region has been able to view this Arabic language news and documentary channel in high definition since January 7th. Nonetheless, its range will be enhanced thanks to three satellites: Hotbird, Badr 4 and Eutelsat 7 West A.
Globecast, france-established company, had provided the connectivity and uplink distribution service. “We believe this significantly enhances the channel’s appeal”, Giorgio Giacomini, MD of Globecast in Middle East, said. Chenk Sen, General Manager of Turksat, had also commented the benefits of this agreement: “TRT Arabi will strengthen its position to become a local voice of Turkey across the region where we share culture and land”.
TRT Arabi began broadcasting in 2010. It provides news and documentaries 24 hours a day. Murat Akgüç, Deputy Director General of TRT, has showed his satisfaction with the companies mentioned above: “Expanding our relationship with them for the launch of the HD variant of TV Arabi was an obvious choice as we trust their technical expertise, customer service and their relationships with satellite operators”.
The three satellites provided by Globecast and Turksat use DVB-S2 as transmission standard; MPEG-4 is its compression method, while the modulation technique is 8PSK.
