UEFA Women’s Champions League final delivers strong audiences in its largest EBU broadcast rollout to date

EBU members achieve record audiences with the UEFA Women’s Champions League 2026 Final

The broadcasters of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have reported strong audiences for the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) 2026 Final. These figures come after another historic moment for women’s football and the first season under the new five-year agreement between the EBU and UC3, as the Corporation has claimed in a statement.

For the first time, 22 EBU members broadcast the UWCL final live from Oslo. The final, held at the Ullevaal Stadion on May 23, saw Barcelona defeat OL Lyonnes 4–0 in front of more than 24,000 spectators.

This match also set a new attendance record for a women’s football game in Norway and marked the conclusion of a historic season in the first year of the new UEFA Women’s Champions League format.

Broadcasters’ audiences

Norwegian channel NRK recorded a peak audience of 264,000 viewers on NRK1, along with a strong 36.6% audience share during the match in the host country.

In Spain, RTVE achieved record results with its coverage of the final, reaching an average audience of 1.157 million viewers and a 14.9% audience share, the highest figure in its history for a UEFA Women’s Champions League broadcast.

In Portugal, coverage of the final on RTP1 reached a total audience of 872,000 viewers, with an average audience of 239,000 viewers.

Stefan-Eric Wildemann, Head of Football, Basketball and Digital Content Acquisitions at EBU Sport, shares: “The UEFA Women’s Champions League 2026 Final marked an important moment in the first season of the EBU’s new agreement with UC3. With 22 EBU members broadcasting the final live from Oslo, the first audience figures already demonstrate the value of free-to-air television in bringing major sporting events such as the UWCL final to viewers across Europe”.

“Women’s sport is a priority for the EBU and its members, who are committed to increasing the visibility of women’s competitions and helping women’s sport continue to grow as a key part of the sporting landscape”, he concludes.
