Astera secures top honors at Euro Cine Expo 2024

Astera, company specialized in lighting solutions in the film, event, and TV sectors, clinched the Best in Show award at Euro Cine Expo 2024, courtesy of film-tv-video.de. This accolade celebrates Astera’s latest innovation, the LunaBulb, unveiled in early June. This achievement builds on their 2023 recognition when Astera was a finalist for their PlutoFresnel.

The LunaBulb blends the classic appeal of a traditional bulb with cutting-edge LED technology, delivering lower power consumption and seamless wireless control for precise adjustments in color and brightness. Judges were particularly impressed by its capacity to offer both the aesthetic charm and practical versatility of traditional lighting solutions, enhanced by technological advancements and user-centric design elements.

In technical terms, the LunaBulb consumes only 3.5 watts and is compatible with E26, E27, and B22 fittings. Utilizing the Titan LED engine, a hallmark of Astera’s product line, it ensures flicker-free control across a wide spectrum of white temperatures (1,750 – 20,000K) and colors (RGB, Mint, Amber), with options for RGB, HIS, XY, and Filter Gel. This integration within the Astera ecosystem facilitates seamless coordination with other lighting fixtures like tubes, pucks, fresnels, and spotlights, all controlled through a unified platform.

Design-wise, the LunaBulb features a versatile spring-loaded clip enabling rapid transformation between a traditional bulb shape and a streamlined form. This flexibility allows it to function either as a standalone piece or integrated into various lighting setups, offering adaptable illumination solutions tailored to diverse creative needs.

Central to the LunaBulb’s acclaim was the accompanying PrepCase, enhancing setup efficiency with its ability to pre-configure up to eight bulbs on the go, powered by its own battery. The case automates DMX address assignments and facilitates on-the-fly adjustments via Bluetooth Bridge, the Astera App, or dedicated remotes, ensuring seamless integration into users’ preferred workflows.

Christine Gebhard, Editor-in-Chief of film-tv-video.de, explained the rationale behind the award: “Evaluating film products across diverse categories is challenging, but Astera’s LunaBulb captivated us with its blend of advanced LED technology and classic design.”

Ben Díaz, Astera’s Head of PM, elaborated on their approach: “At Astera, we strive to harmonize tradition and innovation. Our LunaBulb and PlutoFresnel exemplify this philosophy, enhancing the effectiveness, efficiency, and flexibility of traditional lighting forms without compromising their aesthetic appeal.”

He added, “Our TitanTube, among others, represents a revolutionary leap in both technology and aesthetics, empowering lighting directors to honor tradition or forge new paths while maintaining established workflows. We are honored to receive this award, which underscores our commitment to this guiding principle.”
