Azam Media partners with Lawo and Broadcast Solutions to boost broadcast power through advanced OB Truck

Azam Media, an East African direct broadcast satellite service headquartered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is poised to transform its broadcast capabilities with the introduction of a state-of-the-art outside broadcast (OB) truck, developed in collaboration with system integrator Broadcast Solutions and technology provider Lawo. This collaboration represents a significant step forward in Azam Media’s dedication to delivering sports broadcasting experiences across the region, according to the companies’ statement.

Crafted to meet the evolving needs of modern sports production, Azam Media’s new OB truck offers a solution tailored to the company’s expanding portfolio of sporting events, particularly football matches, not only in Tanzania but also in neighboring Kenya. In the broadcaster’s words, this investment underscores Azam Media’s commitment to delivering top-tier coverage as it secures increasingly prominent TV rights.

At the heart of the vehicle’s audio control room lies the Lawo mc²36 All-in-One console. With its built-in A__UHD Core functionality, this console provides 256 processing channels, available at both 48 and 96 kHz, and natively supports ST2110, AES67, Ravenna, and Ember+. With an I/O capacity of 864 channels, the Lawo mc²36 stands as one of the most advanced IP-based audio consoles, empowering Azam Media with unparalleled audio capabilities and ensuring pristine sound quality for every broadcast.

The OB truck is equipped with cutting-edge equipment and technology to support its mission-critical operations. With twelve Sony cameras, two additional Dreamchip Mini Cameras, and a state-of-the-art ROSS Vision Mixer, Azam Media’s production team can capture every angle of the action seamlessly. The integration of two EVS XT-GO Replay Servers further enhances replay capabilities, contributing to an immersive viewer experience.

Lawo’s VSM (Virtual Studio Manager) IP Broadcast Control and Workflow Solution serves as the backbone of the OB truck’s broadcast control system, offering versatility and automation. This integration enables Azam Media to customize workflows to meet the demands of any production scenario, providing the flexibility needed for diverse broadcasting environments. Raghvendra Tiwari, Head of Department – Technical at Azam Media, emphasizes the benefits of VSM: “VSM gives us the right way to manage a complex workflow… it is, without compromise, the best product for us.”

The project extends beyond the OB truck, including additional components essential for Azam Media’s comprehensive broadcasting operations. These components encompass a Support Truck, three 5-camera flight case production kits, a VAR van, and 2x C-Band Flyaway Uplink Systems.

Wladislaw Grabowski, Managing Director / COO at Broadcast Solutions, highlights their ability to customize solutions to meet specific market needs, stating, “They need specific functionality to meet their market… We are able to take all our knowledge and experience, rapidly understand the specific requirements, and build and deliver quickly.”

Ralf Schimmel, Sales Director MEA and Africa at Lawo, expresses excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with Azam Media and Broadcast Solutions to deliver a state-of-the-art broadcasting solution that sets a new standard for sports production in East Africa.”

Raghvendra Tiwari concludes, “Partnering with Broadcast Solutions and Lawo has enabled us to build a world-class OB truck that will elevate our sports broadcasting capabilities to new heights.”
