Canon unveils EOS C400 cinema camera with RF Mount and Cine Servo Lens 

Canon Europe launches the EOS C400, equipped with an RF mount, along with the CN7x17 KAS T lens, aiming to revolutionize large-scale productions

In response to the dynamic needs of the market, the EOS C400 is tailored to support a wide range of productions, from indie cinema to live broadcasts and electronic news gathering. It offers a compact yet powerful solution, integrating advanced features typically found in larger cameras into a more agile design, prioritizing usability without compromising capability. Additionally, specialized in-camera connectivity ensures seamless integration for multi-camera productions.

BSI sensor and triple ISO
Featuring a 6K full-frame backside-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor (BSI), the EOS C400 boasts 16 stops of dynamic range, enhancing light capture efficiency and delivering superior image quality. Introducing Canon’s triple base ISO technology, the camera excels in low-light environments with base ISO levels of 800, 3,200, and 12,800 when shooting in Canon Log 2 or 3.

RF mount
The EOS C400 supports Canon RF mount technology, seamlessly integrating with a wide range of lenses. Users can also utilize Canon’s EF-EOS R mount adapters and the new PL-RF mount adaptor for added flexibility. Enhanced metadata capabilities and connectivity options facilitate real-time data capture, enhancing VFX and Virtual Production workflows.

Dual pixel CMOS AF II
Canon introduces Dual Pixel CMOS AF II to its cinema EOS system, offering improved autofocus features, including comprehensive coverage across the sensor plane. This system provides swift and precise performance, upgrading filmmaking clarity and reliability, with additional benefits such as face/eye/body tracking and animal detection and tracking.

Recording formats
The EOS C400 offers various internal recording formats, including Canon’s Cinema RAW Light LT/ST/HQ, 4:2:2 10-bit XF-AVC, and new MP4-based XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S formats, catering to diverse professional requirements.

Compact design
Despite its compact form, this new cinematic camera maintains extensive connectivity options, allowing operators to access features associated with larger-scale production cameras without added bulk. Enhanced accessories further enhance compatibility with different shooting styles.

Introducing the CN7x17 KAS T
The CN7x17 KAS T lens, available with RF or PL mount, extends Canon’s Cine Servo lens range, offering enhanced performance and compatibility with virtual and VFX workflows. With a 7x optical zoom and 17-120mm focal length, the lens is ideal for various productions, boasting 11 iris blades for beautifully diffused highlights.

Canon also announces a firmware update for the EOS C300 Mark III, adding 12-bit Cinema RAW Light formats and an Auto ISO feature. Additionally, the RF 35mm F1.4L VCM lens and the Speedlite EL-10 are introduced to elevate both stills and video capture.
