DVB Production integrates Calrec’s All-IP Argo S

Slovenia’s international outside broadcast (OB) provider, DVB Production, has marked a milestone in European broadcast technology by becoming the first in the region to incorporate Calrec’s cutting-edge all-IP Argo S audio console along with two ImPulse1 cores into its OB Vehicle 1. This move, according to both companies, underscores DVB Production’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements in broadcast services.

DVB Production, established in 2007 with the aim of revolutionizing mobile production in Slovenia and Central Europe, has expanded its footprint substantially over the years. Collaborating with major broadcasters like Sky Sport Austria, ORF, ARD, RAI, among others, the company has also forged strong partnerships with key rights holders and sports federations, including UEFA and FIFA.

Speaking on this pioneering integration, Daniel Cof, CEO of DVB Production, emphasized the company’s dedication to innovation, stating, “Our relentless pursuit of innovation has propelled us to achieve significant milestones and collaborate with prestigious organizations. Embracing IP technology for audio in our OB1 truck represents a significant leap forward, recognizing its undeniable potential as the future of broadcasting.”

In selecting the ideal console for their requirements, Cof highlighted the meticulous evaluation process undertaken by the team. “We conducted a comprehensive analysis of various features and compared different brands. Calrec emerged as the ideal choice for several reasons, including its robust redundancy features, and our positive experience with its Brio console in our smaller OB van, which facilitated a seamless transition to Argo’s interface,” he added.

Despite space constraints within the OB vehicle, Calrec’s innovative approach came to the fore with the creation of a reduced-height version of the Argo S console. This adaptation combined the functionality of two rows of screens into one, offering switchable access to essential information. The console’s extensive I/O capabilities, coupled with its enhanced DSP power, particularly complemented DVB’s DANTE network and intercom system. Furthermore, Calrec’s ImPulse1, tailored for smaller, single mixer applications, further enhanced the system’s versatility.

Cof underscored the confidence instilled by their investment in a future-proof solution that accommodates various immersive audio configurations. “The transition to an IP-based system not only simplifies cabling but also contributes to significant reductions in OB truck weight. The installation and integration process, even with existing non-IP technology, were smoother than ever before,” he noted, commending Calrec’s efficiency in delivering the project within a remarkably short timeframe of 14 weeks.

Already operational on multiple projects, including the UEFA Women’s Champions League match in Munich and a UEFA Europa League broadcast in Milan, DVB Production has demonstrated the efficacy of the Argo system. Cof expressed satisfaction with the successful execution of these events, highlighting the company’s upcoming engagements in the sports broadcasting arena.

Mike Reddick, International Sales Manager at Calrec, emphasized the company’s customer-centric approach, stating, “At Calrec, we prioritize meeting the evolving needs of our clients. The widespread adoption of Argo underscores our commitment to delivering solutions tailored to the specific requirements of OB providers. We eagerly anticipate further collaboration with DVB Production as they continue to solidify their position as a leading OB provider in Central Europe.”
