Gravity Media Australia to deliver broadcast coverage of 2024 Santos Tour Down Under

Events South Australia and Gravity Media recently unveiled the broadcast technology and television production collaboration that will see Gravity Media Australia create and deliver coverage of the 2024 Santos Tour Down Under across Australia and multiple international territories.

A total of 9 stages and 2 criteriums bring together female and male UCI WorldTour professional cycling teams to race on the streets of Adelaide and across regional South Australia every January.

South Australia and the Santos Tour Down Under are the first destination for the world’s best male and female cycling teams and riders competing in 2024. In partnership with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), this event marks the opening of the UCI WorldTour, which also includes prestigious races like the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and Vuelta a España.

The Santos Tour Down Under is owned and managed by Events South Australia, a division of the South Australian Tourism Commission, on behalf of the South Australian Government. Gravity Media Australia has been appointed by Events South Australia as the “host” broadcast company for the Santos Tour Down Under. This marks Gravity Media Australia’s fourth year as the broadcast and production partner for Events South Australia for this event.

In a major technological, logistical, and production effort, Gravity Media Australia is deploying state-of-the-art high-definition outside broadcast trucks and satellite units, over 15 cameras, including on-board “chase” motorcycles, aerial coverage using a helicopter camera, and a crew of up to 100 to cover the Santos Tour Down Under as it travels more than 1,000 kilometers across South Australia.

Gravity Media Australia is also utilizing specialized broadcast technology and communication services through its Globecam business, which is internationally recognized for its innovation in developing world-leading specialty miniature cameras and RF communications solutions.

In addition to providing all broadcast technologies and acting as the “host” broadcast company, Gravity Media Australia has also been appointed as the television production company for the event, responsible for creating, producing, and delivering the complete television production of the Santos Tour Down Under for a global audience.

Beyond its role as the “host” broadcast company, Gravity Media Australia has also been tasked with creating and producing Seven Network’s coverage of the Santos Tour Down Under, using its SNG fleet and introducing highly mobile cellular and cloud-based technologies that connect to the Gravity Media Production Centre in Sydney, streamlining and enhancing the efficient delivery of Seven’s complete broadcast production.

Gravity Media’s overall production includes 40 hours of live coverage and the production and delivery of a daily highlights program for both Australian and international audiences. This content is broadcast to a global audience across multiple international broadcast and content delivery platforms, including the Seven Network in Australia.
