Sony to buy company specialized in deep learning from video delivery

TMI Sony acquires iSIZE

The company to be acquired, iSIZE, has its headquarters in UK and focus its activity in deep learning for video delivery

Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (“SIE”) has made public the company is going to acquire iSIZE, a UK-based company that specializes in deep learning for video delivery. To deliver bitrate savings and quality improvements for the media and entertainment industry, iSIZE builds AI-powered solutions; its acquisition provides Sony Interactive Entertainment with expertise in applying machine learning to video processing, which will benefit a range of Sony’s R&D efforts as well as video and streaming services.

Founded in 2016 and based in London, iSIZE has a team of engineers and technical experts who have developed a suite of software solutions to optimize video. For example, the company built an AI-based perceptual preprocessing solution that allows conventional, third-party encoders to produce higher quality video at a significantly lower bitrate.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking forward to welcoming the iSIZE team.
