Sweden’s Viaplay to distribute its content in Poland through an agreement with CANAL+ Polska
Viaplay Group and Polish operator CANAL+ Polska have recently reached a direct-to-home (DTH) distribution agreement in Poland that will make Viaplay’s streaming service available to CANAL+ Polska’s premium DTH subscribers throughout the country.
As part of the agreement, Viaplay will also sublicense selected Premier League matches to CANAL+ Polska for the next three seasons.
Users of the Polish pay-TV service will be able to access Viaplay’s mix of live sports, Viaplay Originals, movies, series and children’s content. Access to Viaplay’s offering will be gradually rolled out starting this fall.
Starting in August, when England’s top soccer competition kicks off, CANAL+ channels will offer two live Premier League matches per day. In turn, CANAL+ Polska will sublicense up to two live matches per round of the popular Polish speedway league eWinner I Liga Żużlowa to Viaplay Group in Poland. The sublicensed speedway matches will also be available on CANAL+ channels and services.
Kim Poder, Viaplay Group Commercial Director: “Poland is a key market for Viaplay and we want as many viewers as possible to try our service. This long-term agreement with one of Poland’s largest pay-TV operators will significantly expand our market in the coming years. It also brings our Premier League coverage to an even wider audience, while showcasing the quality of our sports broadcasts to fans across Poland.”
Edyta Sadowska, CEO and Managing Director of CANAL+ Polska: “With the start of the upcoming season, two important matches of each Premier League matchday will be available on CANAL+ channels, which is undoubtedly excellent news for CANAL+ customers. Thanks to the establishment of the cooperation with Viaplay, we will also be able to offer our customers access to more unique content from many different categories.”
