Vivaro Media allies with Appear for live coverage of major summer sporting event

Appear, a provider of live production technology worldwide, has been selected by Vivaro Media to facilitate the live transmission of a significant sporting event taking place this summer in Paris. Vivaro Media, that specializes in solutions for global live audiovisual content transport for broadcasters and service providers across Latin America, will utilize Appear’s acclaimed X Platform to decode over 30 HD channels during the competition.

The X20 Platform from Appear offers unparalleled flexibility, density, and cost-efficiency, catering to numerous prominent media brands worldwide. For the upcoming 2024 summer sporting event, Vivaro Media will employ the X20 to distribute signals using cutting-edge technologies like 2022-7, 2110, and NMOS to major broadcasters in Latin America, ensuring millions of fans stay connected and engaged throughout the event. This sophisticated platform supplants Vivaro Media’s existing SDI equipment, introducing state-of-the-art IP protocol capabilities. The deployment builds upon the longstanding collaboration between Appear and Vivaro Media, with Appear previously providing live encoding and multiplexing services for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

Carlos Jurado, Senior Director of Sales Engineering & Operations at Vivaro Media, remarked: “Live sports events are enjoyed by billions of fans globally every year, who demand flawless broadcast coverage. Our positive experience with the Appear X20 and X10 Platform gives us the confidence to further utilize it in various applications within our network and deploy it for our customers in premium live events worldwide. The X20’s adaptability to our evolving needs, its compact design, and its flexibility to manage most protocols and interfaces were pivotal factors in our decision. We are confident that our continued partnership with Appear will enhance our broadcast operations’ efficiency and sustainability, setting new standards for live event coverage.”

Luis Perez, Sales Director LATAM at Appear, stated: “Vivaro Media’s selection of Appear to support its upcoming live coverage of this prestigious sporting event underscores the market-leading capabilities and reputation of our X Platform. Our ongoing collaboration ensures that Latin American sports fans will enjoy an unmatched viewing experience during the tournament. Investing in the X20 Platform reflects Vivaro Media’s dedication to delivering the most resilient, adaptable, and secure live media processing – perfectly suited for a global audience. We look forward to assisting Vivaro Media in becoming more efficient and sustainable in its broadcast operations while delivering top-quality coverage.”

According to the company, the operational resilience and cost efficiency of the X20 Platform empower broadcasters and service providers to facilitate live contribution, with advanced remote production and distribution workflows globally. Integration with leading industry standards such as HEVC/AVC, ST-2110, JPEG XS, NMOS, and high-capacity SRT, combined with a diverse array of processing functionalities, Network Address Translation (NAT), and firewall features, ensures a comprehensive and efficient solution for content delivery, continuing with the company’s statement.

To enhance the flexibility of the X20 Platform, Appear has designed the modules within the chassis to have software-defined functionality. This enables Vivaro, for example, to switch decoder modules to encoders or vice versa after the sporting event, making it much simpler for Vivaro Media to utilize the X Platform in future projects.

The X20 Platform integrates with Appear’s Ecx110 modules for HEVC ultra-low latency encoding and decoding, significantly reducing energy consumption and power usage while maintaining uncompromised quality. It delivers ultra-low latency, HD, and UHD compression with SDI and ST-2110 uncompressed I/O at scale. Customers can choose from a 1RU or 2RU short-depth chassis for increased flexibility.
