As part of the integration process between RTL Deutschland and Sky Deutschland, both companies plan to eliminate around 500 jobs in Germany by the end of 2027. The majority of these job cuts are expected to take place in 2026, while the process will be completed in 2027, RTL Deutschland has confirmed to several German media outlets.
“The workforce reduction will be carried out in a socially responsible manner, in close coordination with the relevant works councils”, the company shares. The process will also involve “not renewing contracts that are coming to an end and not filling vacant positions”, with the aim of avoiding redundancies for operational reasons.
The German press puts the number of positions that will disappear through expiring contracts that will not be renewed and vacant positions that will not be filled at around 150.
The reduction comes as part of the integration of Sky Deutschland into RTL Group, following the acquisition completed on 1 June. The company expects to generate around €250 million in annual synergies over the three years following the completion of the transaction.
“A significant proportion of these synergies will come from optimising content costs and other costs. In addition, duplicate structures will be eliminated, responsibilities will be consolidated, and more efficient and future-oriented decision-making processes will be established”, RTL states.
The latest reductions come on top of more than 600 jobs already eliminated under RTL Deutschland’s “Shift 2026” restructuring programme, announced at the end of 2025 and implemented in the first quarter of 2026.
