SMPTE®, the go-to hub for media professionals, technologists and engineers, has just revealed a set of fresh membership benefits slated to kick in from January 2024. These updates are a direct response to the evolving needs of the dynamic SMPTE community, aiming to streamline access to standards, self-study courses, and the Motion Imaging Journal.
Beginning in 2024, SMPTE standards will be offered to members without any additional charges. The SMPTE Standards library will be seamlessly integrated into the SMPTE website, allowing members to conveniently download them at their convenience. Non-members won’t be left out, as they can gain access to SMPTE Standards through a subscription service.
Members will also enjoy complimentary access to SMPTE self-study courses, with additional perks including discounted rates on other continuing education materials like instructor-led courses. Non-members, meanwhile, will still have the option to purchase both self-study and instructor-led courses. Adding to the excitement, a revamped version of the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal will be accessible to members on the website. This upgraded iteration of the journal promises an enhanced user experience, featuring comprehensive content and improved accessibility, complete with a handy search function. Starting January, the last ten years’ worth of issues will be readily available.
Expressing his enthusiasm about these changes, SMPTE Executive Director David Grindle stated, “This is precisely what our members have been advocating for, and we’ve delivered. These changes are not just pivotal for the future of SMPTE but also for the industry, as they foster greater accessibility to our society and services”.
