Avid empowered its creative users’ achievements at 96th Academy Awards® and BAFTAs

During the recent 2024 awards season, Avid Media Composer appears to be the preferred tool for the notable winners

Avid® expresses its excitement in applauding its Oscar®-winning users for their creative triumphs at the recent Academy Awards® ceremony. Among them, Oppenheimer stood out, claiming seven awards, including the prestigious Best Picture accolade and Best Film Editing, attributed to editor Jennifer Lame, ACE.

Lame crafted Oppenheimer’s edit utilizing Avid Media Composer®, recognized as the gold-standard editing tool for industry professionals.

Oppenheimer joined a list of ten nominees for the Best Picture Oscar®, with nine of them edited on Avid Media Composer. Notable films include American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Maestro, Past Lives, Poor Things, and The Zone of Interest.

The Oscar® recognition for Oppenheimer, Lame and Göransson follows their success at last month’s BAFTA Film Awards in London – where Oppenheimer won Best Film, Lame picked up the Best Editing award and Göransson won for Best Original Score, eliciting further congratulations from the Avid team. Apart from Lame, three other Best Film Editing nominees employed Media Composer, namely Laurent Sénéchal (Anatomy of a Fall), Kevin Tent, ACE (The Holdovers), and Yorgos Mavropsaridis, ACE (Poor Things).

In addition to winning the Oscar® for Best Film Editing, Oppenheimer also secured the award for Best Original Score, featuring composer Ludwig Göransson’s score produced on Avid’s music notation software, Sibelius®, and recorded live using Avid’s audio production software, Pro Tools®.

Tim Claman, Avid’s Chief Product Officer, remarked, “Hollywood’s most imaginative creatives choose Avid tools to produce the world’s most recognized and admired stories. We’re extremely proud of all our amazing community and we delight in every opportunity to celebrate them. Their accolades inspire us to keep innovating to continuously elevate the craft of storytelling.”

The company highlights that, for over three decades, film and television editors have entrusted Avid in their craft. Since its pioneering launch, Avid Media Composer has consistently remained the industry’s premier video editing system. The Academy initially awarded an Oscar® for Best Editing to an Avid user in 1996. Furthermore, in 1999, Avid itself received an Oscar® for the concept, system design, and engineering of Media Composer (then known as the Avid Film Composer) for motion picture editing. Further recognition from the Academy for Avid’s creative tools came in 2004 when the business received an Oscar® for pioneering creative tools for audio post-production with Avid Pro Tools®.
