Video software provider Synamedia has announced that Televisa, the Mexican telecommunications and broadcasting company, has chosen Synamedia as its preferred partner for a complete overhaul of its broadcast distribution. Televisa is leveraging Synamedia’s Media Edge Gateway (MEG) and PowerVu across its national network, spanning 180 stations nationwide, to enhance the agility of video distribution, processing, and delivery.
Televisa sought a technology partner with expertise and innovative solutions to support its operational transformation. By selecting Synamedia’s MEG, Televisa halved its dependence on hardware, resulting not only in economic benefits but also in the modern technologies necessary to ensure the future of its operations. During the evaluation phase, Televisa utilized dozens of MEGs as part of its strategy to broadcast the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Synamedia played a crucial role in managing backup channels and frame rate conversion. The success of this project contributed to Televisa’s final decision to select Synamedia as its new software provider.
“Synamedia has not only provided us with a unique solution, which does not exist anywhere else in the world, but has also demonstrated exactly what we were looking for in a provider: commitment to both innovation and our long-term success,” stated William Aguirre, Satellite Operations General Director of Televisa. “Our in-house team engaged Siselectron, our hardware provider, to deliver a powerful SR1 device (2nd generation AMD EPYC processor) and customize it to our specific needs. From there, we knew we wanted software and hardware partners agile enough to meet our present and future needs. Synamedia signed up and delivered quickly, has been a key part of the team, and has already shown positive results. We are thrilled with our choice.”
Synamedia’s MEG is a flexible software-defined receiver with powerful edge processing capabilities, such as transcoding, regionalization, and time delay, on satellite, CDN, and IP networks. The combination of Synamedia’s PowerVu distribution platform and MEG provides Televisa with secure content distribution, centralized control, and cutting-edge processing to tailor content transfers to the needs of affiliates and MVPDs. For Televisa, MEG helps ensure that content is securely distributed through Synamedia’s PowerVu conditional access.
“Televisa was seeking a partner who could deliver agility and innovation, and I am proud to have risen to the occasion. Our team relies on commitment and passion to solve our customers’ problems – and that is exactly what we are doing with Televisa and our MEG product line,” said Julien Signes, Executive Vice President of Video Network, Synamedia. “Televisa selected 400 MEG software terminals to support the transformation of its broadcast ecosystem in a country with almost 130 million inhabitants. It’s a massive undertaking, and we are excited to continue our successful collaboration in the years ahead.”
Earlier this month, one of Televisa’s largest stations went live with Synamedia MEG and PowerVu in the city of Guadalajara. The project will continue to be rolled out through the summer of 2024 and in stages over the next two years to cover all stations in Mexico.
