Dome Productions, a Canadian provider of mobile production facilities, has upgraded its flagship OB trucks, Titan and Empire, with Calrec’s Artemis consoles. This enhancement underscores Dome’s dedication to delivering top-tier audio across a variety of live events, including major sports leagues like the NHL, NBA, and MLB, as well as government events, eSports, and news broadcasts. The sale was facilitated by Calrec’s Canadian partner, True North A.V.
Roberto da Conceicao Junior, Senior Technical Manager and Project Lead for Titan and Empire, highlighted the choice of Calrec, saying, “We chose Calrec because of its standing as the leading provider of audio consoles for live events in North America. The Artemis console’s ease of integration, along with its workflow compatibility for freelance crews and clients, made it the clear choice for us. We also value its compact design, flexible routing, customizable control surface, and integrated processing. Plus, its seamless integration with Calrec’s Hydra2 network has been key for both trucks.”
Dome Productions’ forward-thinking approach was recognized when the company received the Neumann Project of the Year 2023 Americas award for innovation in its broadcast trucks and audio systems. Both *Titan* and *Empire* feature Neumann speakers and Sennheiser microphones, highlighting their advanced audio setup. Earlier this year, *Empire* covered Vancouver Canucks games, while *Titan* remained in Toronto to support the Leafs and Raptors. *Titan* is also the primary facility for Toronto Blue Jays home games, and *Empire* played a critical role during the NHL playoffs leading up to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Both trucks are powered by a ST2110 IP core for routing, driven by an Evertz NATX setup. The Artemis core consists of the Artemis console with Bluefin 2 high-density signal processing, 64 multi-layer faders, and Stagebox I/O, all connected via Calrec’s Hydra2 network. The setup also includes an Evertz audio gateway for AoIP conversion. Conceicao noted, “Hydra2 enables us to expand and add additional I/O devices, making it versatile enough for productions of any size. It allows us to meet customer needs without needing major overhauls.”
Kypros Christodoulides, Calrec Product Specialist at True North, remarked, “Dome Productions is very familiar with Calrec’s advanced capabilities, which is why they were eager to equip their cutting-edge *Titan* and *Empire* OB trucks with Artemis consoles. Sports broadcasters across North America expect the highest production standards, and these trucks are equipped to meet those demands with powerful audio setups that excel in fast-paced environments.”
Dave Letson of Calrec added, “Dome Productions is a cornerstone of the broadcasting industry, consistently raising the bar with its state-of-the-art mobile production trucks. Calrec is proud to partner with Dome, a company whose commitment to delivering superior audio experiences aligns with our own mission of excellence.”
According to both companies, this partnership reflects Dome’s ongoing commitment to providing audio and production quality in North America’s most demanding live broadcast environments.
