AtomOne mini zoom cameras play vital role in deployment strategy
Dream Chip, a prominent manufacturer of miniature cameras, in collaboration with their German distributor Teltec, has recently finalized the sale and installation of 14 AtomOne mini zoom cameras for Riot Games. These cameras are integral to Riot Games’ transformation of the LEC studio into the newly christened ‘Riot Games Arena,’ aimed at broadening its scope to encompass various eSports titles, including Valorant and TeamFight Tactics.
The development of the arena, which remains the venue for the League of Legends EMEA championship, commenced in 2024. Initially proposed in September 2022, the project’s execution was entrusted to NIYU, who provided a comprehensive turnkey solution. Working in tandem with two other companies, NIYU commenced implementation in April 2023, with the inaugural games taking place in January 2024.
To accommodate the expansion of the venue for new gaming tournaments, emphasis was placed on creating a flexible setup capable of swift adjustments to suit the logistics of each tournament’s format. While the arena retains a capacity of 210 live spectators, paramount importance was given to crafting an immersive experience for online viewers. Furthermore, providing top-notch facilities for competitors to enhance their performance while granting fans access to their favorite teams and competitors was a key priority.
Dream Chip was chosen as one of the POV camera suppliers for the stadium, providing a total of 14 miniature cameras, ten of which are in operation at any given time to offer direct shots of competitors during gameplay. This decision was not without its challenges. Given the close proximity of the camera to the gamers and their tendency to move significantly within the frame, conventional PTZ cameras were deemed unsuitable. The AtomOne mini zoom cameras were selected for their unobtrusive nature, measuring just 600mm x 85mm and weighing 267g. They were discreetly mounted on custom-made PSUs beside each competitor’s monitor, connected to a central under-desk point, allowing for flexible configuration of the competitor stage layout.
Apart from the physical demands of discrete placement and flexible deployment, the technical quality of the image was also a crucial consideration. Despite the unconventional access path for eSports audiences, there remains an expectation of broadcast-quality content. Dream Chip’s AtomOne mini zoom cameras excel in meeting this demand, boasting full HD resolution, a 1/2.5” sensor, a wide-angle lens of 120° – 40° F/1.5-2.8, and full HDR capability (HLG, PQ, and SLOG3).
Marc Dörmann, Head of Solutions at Teltec AG, underscored Teltec’s strategic decision to incorporate Dream Chip cameras into their portfolio, emphasizing the exceptional color matrix of these cameras and their versatility in integration with various Remote Control Panels (RCPs).
Christian Kühn, Sales & Product Marketing for Dream Chip, expressed gratitude to Teltec for their commitment to delivering flawless solutions tailored to clients’ needs, highlighting Dream Chip’s history of involvement in various sports and its role in enhancing the eSports experience.
Mike Doerfling, Managing Director for NIYU, lauded Dream Chip cameras for helping create an environment that not only met technical excellence standards but also fully immersed viewers in the world of competitive online gaming, delivering an experience rich in excitement and atmosphere.
