In a move to amplify its digital presence and captivate new audiences, the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) has partnered with Magnifi, an artificial intelligence company specializing in automated highlight generation.
The cutting-edge technology will allow the MCA to rapidly produce and share succinct video clips showcasing the most thrilling moments from cricket matches across its social media channels. Leveraging cricket-specific metadata like “boundary,” “six,” “sweep,” and “spin,” Magnifi’s AI algorithms can pinpoint and extract key plays with surgical precision.
“We’ll have the ability to curate highly customized highlight reels,” explained Dato’ Mahinda Vallipuram, President of the MCA. “Fans might want to see all the sixes smashed by a particular batsman or all the wickets taken by a spin bowler – Magnifi makes that possible with just a few filters.”
The partnership signals the MCA’s ambition to cultivate a robust following for cricket in a nation traditionally dominated by sports like badminton, sepak takraw, and basketball. By sharing dynamic clips on Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn, the association hopes to kindle interest among younger demographics and expand its digital imprint.
Notably, the AI-powered highlights will spotlight both men’s and women’s cricket – a commitment to equity that resonates with Magnifi’s CEO Vinayak Shrivastava. “The MCA proves just how democratic and inclusive AI like Magnifi can be,” he stated. “With our solution, they’ll highlight female cricket players who have traditionally been overlooked by mainstream coverage.”
As an associate member of the International Cricket Council and the Asian Cricket Council, the MCA also intends to use Magnifi for its international tournament broadcasts. “It will spotlight how Malaysian cricket teams can thrive on the world stage,” Shrivastava added. “These two factors bode well for the continued success of the sport in Malaysia.”
