Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled a significant partnership with Pinewood Group, marking a great development for the Canadian studio space and the studio itself. This multi-year commitment represents Amazon MGM Studios’ second venture outside the United States and their first in Canada for production facilities.
The entertainment company has secured exclusive rights to the brand-new production facilities at Pinewood Toronto Studios, located in the heart of downtown Toronto. To celebrate this milestone, a ribbon-cutting event was held, attended by prominent figures including Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, and Toronto Mayor, Olivia Chow. This deal encompasses five state-of-the-art sound stages, workshops, and office spaces, collectively spanning approximately 160,000 square feet.
Dan Scharf, Vice President of Global Business Operations at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Pinewood Group is an industry leader, and with the Toronto region’s top-tier crews, this agreement offers us immense opportunities for the continued expansion of film and series projects in Toronto, Ontario, and Canada. We are thrilled that our productions will have a lasting home in Toronto.”
Amazon MGM Studios’ extended commitment to studio space in Toronto aligns seamlessly with their strategy of expanding production in Canada. Their track record includes over 40 series and films shot in various Canadian provinces, including Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Quebec. Notable productions such as “The Boys,” “Gen V,” “Reacher,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” have all been brought to life in Ontario.
In conclusion, Amazon MGM Studios’ partnership with Pinewood Toronto Studios marks a significant step forward for both the Canadian film industry and Amazon MGM Studios’ global expansion strategy.
