New Zealand Rugby launches new digital platform built on Deltatre Nexus

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) has unveiled a new digital Home of the Black Jersey designed to connect a growing global fanbase. For this, they decided to employ the new Deltatre Nexus technology platform, as the company has claimed in a statement.

Available at allblacks.com, blackferns.com and through the new All Blacks and Black Ferns app, the platform combines a live match centre, team news, original content, match highlights and statistics, fixtures, news and the full history and legacy of the black jersey

The launch forms a part of NZR’s wider strategy, which looks forward to deepening relationships with rugby fans across the world. The Nexus technology used is designed to enable sports leagues, federations and teams to bring live and on-demand video, editorial, real-time data, commerce, and other fan engagement tools together in a unified digital destination accessible under a single log-in across mobile, desktop and CTV.

NZR Chief Commercial Officer, Chris Brown, affirms the platform reflects the changing way fans consume sport and the importance of a direct connection with supporters.

“The world’s biggest sporting organisations have built powerful direct relationships with their fans, and this platform positions the All Blacks and Black Ferns to do the same. This platform gives us the ability to connect with fans, better understand what they value, and deliver experiences that keep them engaged with our teams year-round”.

The Live Match Centre (that will be available for fans ahead of the All Blacks vs France, Saturday 4 July) will provide real-time scores, live statistics and in-play updates.

Beyond match day, fans have access to breaking news and analysis, original behind-the-scenes content, on-demand highlights, short form vertical video built for mobile, and an archive of the history, culture and defining moments that have shaped rugby in New Zealand.

From launch, the platform will also stream live rugby direct to fans in markets where there is no broadcast partner. First will be the Māori All Blacks and Japan XV match live on allblacks.com and the All Blacks & Black Ferns App, to all markets outside of New Zealand and Japan.

The Black Ferns have a clear digital destination at blackferns.com and All Blacks & Black Ferns App. This move reflects the global rise of women’s rugby, according to Brown.

The timing of the launch lines up with rugby entering one of its most compelling periods of international competition, with the inaugural Nations Championship, women’s WXV series, Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry between the All Blacks and Springboks, and the inaugural British and Irish Lions Women’s Tour in 2027.

The platform aims to give NZR a world-class digital presence capable of converting that global interest into loyal fans. It is build on the foundations established through NZR+, which attracted nearly 450,000 registered fans globally and helped more than double the audience of the All Blacks YouTube channel to 1.35million. Also, the Black Ferns YouTube channel has generated more than 20 million views since launch (August 2025).

The insights, content capability and audience developed through NZR+ have now been integrated into a broader digital ecosystem spanning web, app and connected TV.

“Over the past three years we’ve learned a huge amount through NZR+, building an audience of dedicated fans, and significantly growing our digital content reach. This platform takes those learnings and brings everything together in a permanent digital home designed for fans”, he states.

NZR+ evolves into NZR’s in-house production studio, continuing to produce original video content including the series ‘Behind the Fern’, offering fans behind the scenes access to their favourite teams’, players’ stories and premium production. The new platform also offers a cleaner and easier user experience for fans with a single sign-on to access all NZR channels, website, app and connected TV.

Future development of the platform will include a personalised experience for fans, allowing them to follow the teams and players they care about the most, with the platform providing content and updates specific to their interests.

The platform is underpinned by proven technology from Deltatre. Peter Bellamy, Chief Revenue Officer at the company, concludes: “The platform utilises our new Deltatre NEXUS product. Combining the strengths of Deltatre’s editorial and OTT products into a single new product ecosystem, and New Zealand Rugby’s leadership in leveraging it sets a powerful example for ambitious rights holders everywhere”.

The All Blacks and Black Ferns App is available on iOS and Google Play.
