Voice of Vietnam (VOV) has completed the second phase of its traffic radio project, implementing advanced audio solutions from Lawo to upgrade its broadcasting capabilities. This latest expansion builds on VOV’s initial 2020/2021 upgrades, which included Lawo’s ruby and crystal radio broadcast consoles. Now, with the second phase completed in 2023, VOV has added three of Lawo’s latest diamond consoles, three new crystal consoles, and two redundant Power Core routing devices. These installations cover two major locations: VOV’s expanded system in Hanoi and a newly constructed studio facility in Danang.
The new IP-native diamond console integrates directly into VOV’s Ravenna /AES67 network, aligning with the modern requirements of broadcast environments. Known for its customization options, the diamond console allows VOV operators to adapt controls to specific studio needs, adding flexibility and supporting scalability for future expansions. Meanwhile, the compact crystal consoles ensure high performance and efficiency in daily broadcasting operations, providing a user-friendly interface that suits both novice and seasoned engineers.
At the core of VOV’s updated infrastructure is a Ravenna AoIP network paired with Lawo’s Power Core routing devices, which are crucial for managing the complex audio routing demands of VOV’s network. Compatible with Ravenna /AES67 standards, these Power Core devices provide robust channel capacity and flexible I/O configurations, while redundancy ensures uninterrupted broadcast even in case of hardware issues, thus increasing overall reliability.
The adoption of Lawo’s IP-based solutions has also optimized VOV’s workflow, simplifying content management and broadcasting processes. With this setup, VOV’s production team benefits from reduced complexity, streamlined control, and enhanced flexibility in managing both live and pre-recorded content, which ultimately leads to more consistent and high-quality broadcasts for their listeners.
The project was executed with support from Broadcast Communications International (BCI), a Singapore-based integrator, and Emico, a local trading partner. BCI managed around 85% of the project configuration, including the mixer and router installations, while Lawo assisted with Ravenna network configuration and the redundant Power Core system design. This collaboration ensured that the project met VOV’s scalability requirements and long-term growth objectives.
Reflecting on the expansion, a VOV spokesperson stated, “The enhancement of Voice of Vietnam’s broadcast infrastructure is a significant part of our ongoing efforts to modernize our operations. Lawo’s solutions give us the flexibility and reliability we need to deliver high-quality content to our listeners in Vietnam and abroad.”
