Avid® has recently unveiled upgrades to its software-defined storage solution, Avid Nexis, aimed at meeting the rigorous performance requirements of audio and video professionals across all scales – from individual studios to expansive media enterprises, as the company specialized in video professional said.
Built for real-time media production, Avid Nexis remains the gold standard in collaborative shared storage solutions, delivering the essential performance, scalability, and reliability needed for professional content creation workflows in audio and video. Specifically tailored for post-production facilities, dubbing studios, and multi-room environments utilizing multiple Avid Pro Tools® workstations, Nexis boasts a variety of storage ‘engines’ available both on-premises and in the cloud.
For the most demanding audio and video workflows, Avid recommends leveraging the Avid Nexis F2 SSD engine. With the introduction of Avid Nexis | VFS software version 2023.12 or later, SSD-based Nexis systems are now verified to support up to 8,000 tracks per Nexis F2 SSD across numerous Pro Tools workstations, enabling seamless access to audio clips, session files, video sequences, and other media concurrently. This enhancement also enables a 6x performance increase for audio punch-in operations.
Integrated seamlessly with Avid Media Composer® and Avid Pro Tools, the new solution provides performance, scalability, and real-time media delivery essential for tracking and mixing sound-for-picture projects and other high-track-count immersive audio endeavors.
For smaller-scale projects, production teams can opt for the Avid Nexis F-series and Avid Nexis | PRO+ engines. Also powered by Avid Nexis | VFS software 2023.12 or later, these engines offer validated multi-user performance for Pro Tools audio workflows, now delivering 2x faster performance for audio punch-ins and 20% quicker save times for Pro Tools sessions. The Nexis F-series supports up to 175 million files and 500 voices per media pack, while the Nexis | PRO+ handles up to 5 million files and 500 voices per media pack.
Across all configurations, Avid Nexis eliminates the need for file duplication or movement, securely storing media centrally and enabling rapid simultaneous access for all authorized team members.
Tim Claman, Chief Product Officer at Avid, emphasizes, “Our customers are continually seeking greater efficiencies and smoother workflows, particularly as they tackle increasingly complex projects. Avid Nexis already enjoys a stellar reputation as the go-to shared storage platform in the industry. With these latest enhancements to Nexis software, Avid is raising the bar for audio performance across both standalone audio facilities and hybrid audio/video environments, ensuring seamless content sharing without compromising performance.”
He adds, “While these innovations have been proven to exceed the demands of large-scale audio facilities, the benefits of enhanced performance extend to smaller setups as well. Moreover, since the enhancements are software-driven, existing customers can easily upgrade their Nexis software to enjoy these advantages.”
