Appear has been selected as the official provider of advanced broadcast transmission solutions for the Swiss Indoors Basel 2024, one of the most prestigious indoor tennis events on the ATP Tour. Taking place from October 19 to 27, this annual tournament brings top-tier tennis talent to Switzerland, serving as a key stop on the ATP 500 circuit ahead of the ATP Finals in Turin.

A critical component of delivering the Swiss Indoors experience to on-site spectators is Appear’s X Platform, which ensures high-quality, near real-time broadcast of matches across the venue. The system distributes live coverage to around 100 screens strategically located in areas such as press offices, VIP lounges, restaurants, exhibition spaces, and the stands. This on-site broadcast system, developed and set up by R. Geissmann AG in partnership with Teletrend AG, offers a seamless viewing experience for attendees across the venue.

The X Platform from Appear is designed to meet the high demands of live sports broadcasting, providing fast and reliable signal transmission, crucial for maintaining low-latency and high picture quality throughout a sports venue. Its modularity and user-friendly design make it an ideal choice for arenas and auditoriums that require efficient distribution of signals to a large number of displays. Appear’s solution not only ensures stability but also streamlines the process for operators managing live event broadcasts.

In terms of the technical setup, Appear’s X Platform plays a pivotal role. Signals are acquired directly from the control room in HD-SDI format and are then processed using low-latency H.264 encoders. These signals are converted into IP multicast for distribution throughout the venue. This solution guarantees that spectators, whether watching in VIP areas or the press zone, are able to follow the action in real-time with exceptional image clarity.
