France Télévisions and YouTube have entered into a new partnership with the intention of expanding access to public service content and combating misinformation. In line with France Télévisions’ “streaming-first” strategy, it will focus on offering more hours of news and information programming wherever audiences are and across all screens, as the media group has claimed in a statement.
Against this backdrop, France Télévisions and YouTube are joining forces to try to accelerate the visibility, consumption, and reach of France Télévisions’ news content across all digital environments.
The partnership includes:
- The availability of all national and local news bulletins, as well as major daily and weekly current affairs and investigative programmes that enjoy strong audience success.
- Editorial curation of content by France Télévisions on YouTube, through programme- and topic-based channels, as well as original, platform-native content designed to deliver a more engaging and tailored viewing experience.
- Strengthened protection against misinformation and manipulated content, with YouTube facilitating the adoption of Likeness ID, its tool for detecting AI-generated content that uses a person’s image or identity without consent.
In addition, France TV Publicité will directly commercialise advertising inventory on the platform, with greater flexibility to optimise catalogue value.
This collaboration, they explain, reflects a clear ambition: the future of audiovisual media is built around streaming. Both partners welcome the increased exposure of high-quality content for all audiences.
Delphine Ernotte Cunci, President and CEO of France Télévisions, shares: “This strategic partnership with YouTube accelerates France Télévisions’ streaming-first strategy. In an ultra-competitive video landscape and in the face of growing exposure to misinformation, it strengthens the reach of our news content to all audiences, including those furthest from traditional media”.
Justine Ryst, Managing Director of YouTube France, concludes: “We are proud of this strategic partnership with France Télévisions and convinced of the strong complementarity between YouTube and public service broadcasting. We are committed to supporting France Télévisions’ ambitions by leveraging our technology to serve news and enhance the visibility of its content”.
