RED Digital Cinema discloses V-RAPTOR [X] camera systems with Global Vision and all-new broadcast solutions at NAB 2024

RED Digital Cinema® is set to showcase its latest innovations at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show from April 13-18, featuring the groundbreaking V-RAPTOR [X] and V-RAPTOR XL [X]. These cutting-edge cameras mark RED’s venture into Large Format global shutter cinema, boasting powerful features like the Phantom Track for virtual and live productions. Attendees can experience RED’s Global Vision suite, which includes Extended Highlights and Phantom Track demonstrations, at the CineCentral sponsored by RED in the Central Hall. This educational activation offers hands-on learning opportunities, including dedicated demos of RED’s newest products.

Alongside these advancements, RED will spotlight its latest broadcast technologies, designed to elevate cinematic imagery for broadcast and live event productions. The spotlight will be on the all-new RED Cine-Broadcast Module and broadcast color pipeline.

The RED Cine-Broadcast Module, compatible with V-RAPTOR XL [X], V-RAPTOR [X], and standard V-RAPTOR and V-RAPTOR XL camera systems, unlocks live broadcast capabilities with up to 2 channels of 4K 60P (HDR/SDR) over 12G-SDI. It is IP-broadcast ready with SMPTE ST 2110 (TR-08) and supports up to a 4K 60P JPEG-XS feed. Featuring a Lemo SMPTE 311M/304M hybrid fiber optical cable connector, the module connects to a rack-mountable 2 RU Base Station.

Furthermore, broadcasters can enhance their workflows with slow-motion, AI/ML augmentation, and live-to-headset capabilities using 8K 120FPS R3Ds through RED’s license-enabled RED Connect feature.

RED is also set to introduce the brand-new Broadcast Color pipeline for the DSMC3 lineup, enabling live painting of RED cameras in a broadcast or streaming environment. This functionality allows for on-demand adjustments and multi-camera color matching. The firmware-enabled feature utilizes industry-standard RCPs to control painting parameters in real-time over IP while saving information per frame in the R3D metadata.
