Riedel Communications has unveiled its latest innovation, the Smart Audio & Mixing Engine (SAME™), a next-generation audio processing software suite that promises to transform broadcast audio workflows with its improved automation features and great flexibility.
SAME™ is built on the latest commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) server cluster technology, providing scalable audio processing capabilities tailored to the needs of modern productions. The suite includes over 30 advanced tools such as automatic leveling, dynamic equalization, 5.1 upmixing, loudness meters, and signal analyzers, making it suitable for a wide range of applications including voice-over, automated mixing, audio monitoring, and in-line process insertion. When paired with Riedel’s new Network Stream Adapters (NSA), SAME offers a fully automated signal path from microphone to ear.
“SAME will introduce a new level of efficiency and creativity to audio production workflows,” said Roger Heiniger, Senior Product Manager at Riedel Communications. “By integrating advanced automation tools like fingerprint-based dynamic equalization and automatic loudness leveling, audio professionals can shift their focus from technical details to content creation. We’re excited to see how this technology will elevate productions of all sizes.”
At the core of SAME is the Audio Pilot, a tool designed to provide audio engineers with an overview of all active productions. The Audio Pilot enables centralized monitoring and management of multilocation setups, while also offering an independent audio monitoring system with automated path switching. This feature allows engineers to instantly select and listen to any active process in the system, eliminating the need for manual signal routing.
Riedel has also introduced the STAGE™ management platform, which simplifies the configuration of devices, personnel, and workflows without requiring deep knowledge of IP protocols. The browser-based tool features strong remote assistance capabilities and integrates with corporate directories and third-party identity providers, making it suitable for both on-site and remote productions. With STAGE, SAME users can avoid processing bottlenecks and easily switch between workspaces and production areas without the constraints of traditional physical hardware setups.
“SAME is designed by audio experts to meet the dynamic needs of live productions,” said Jake Dodson, Executive Director of Product Management at Riedel Communications. “Together with STAGE, we’re entering a new era of server-based audio solutions, offering unmatched flexibility and scalability for today’s fast-evolving production environments.”
SAME™ and the STAGE™ platform have been showcased at IBC 2024, offering to visitors an exciting glimpse into the future of audio production technology.
