Sky Sports customers are in for a treat with over 50% more live sport available this year, thanks to the launch of Sky Sports+. This transformative addition to the Sky Sports lineup, set to debut this August, promises to optimize the viewing experience for sports fans, offering a great amount of options via live streams, the mobile app, and a dedicated new channel, all at no additional charge.
Integrated seamlessly into Sky TV, the streaming service NOW, and an upgraded Sky Sports mobile app, Sky Sports+ will simplify the process of browsing, discovering, and watching beloved sports. With the capability to showcase up to 100 live events concurrently, viewers will enjoy unprecedented choice in selecting what to watch. Furthermore, the dedicated Sky Sports+ linear channel will feature a curated selection of the finest live sports programming.
This announcement coincides with the beginning of a landmark partnership with the EFL, featuring over 1,000 EFL games per season, with every team showcased over 20 times, and each Championship club highlighted at least 24 times. The scale of Sky Sports+ will be evident from the inaugural weekend of the 2024/25 season, with every match from all three divisions of the EFL streamed live—a broadcasting first.
Jonathan Licht, Managing Director at Sky Sports, expressed excitement about the future of sports broadcasting, stating: “Exceptional sport, presented in an innovative and compelling manner, has been a cornerstone of our legacy. With the introduction of Sky Sports+, we aim to provide sports fans with more choices and an even more enriching viewing experience, all at no additional cost.
“For the first time, every game from across the EFL will be broadcast live on the opening weekend. This represents a monumental moment for football enthusiasts nationwide and marks a fitting start to our groundbreaking new collaboration with the EFL. And this is only the beginning; Sky Sports+ unlocks the potential for us to continually evolve and discover new ways to deliver outstanding sports coverage to our customers.”
In addition to expanded choice, Sky Sports+ subscribers will enjoy exclusive access to Sky’s acclaimed sports documentaries, such as the highly anticipated Darts documentary, two weeks before general release. Enhanced features will make the viewing experience more immersive, with options like live pause and rewind available on all concurrent streams. The ‘Recap’ feature, currently offered for Premier League and Championship games, will also be extended to EFL games shown on the Sky Sports+ linear channel.
Upon launch, full Sky Sports subscribers will seamlessly transition to Sky Sports+, with no additional action required, across Sky Glass, Sky Stream, Sky Q, and NOW.
The revamped Sky Sports app will become the ultimate destination for sports streaming on mobile devices, with Sky Sports+ streams accessible via event centers in the app. New personalization features will assist fans in following their favorite teams and competitions more easily, while an improved multi-sports scores section will provide fixtures, live scores, and extended views beyond the typical seven-day football calendar. Refreshed design and navigation, including a much-requested dark mode, will enhance usability.
For instant, contract-free access to all Sky Sports channels, non-Sky subscribers can purchase a NOW Sports Day or Month Membership. Beginning in August, this will also include every live Sky Sports+ stream and on-demand catch-up content. As part of the Sky Sports+ launch, NOW members will gain the ability to pause and rewind live sports content for the first time.
