Romanian broadcaster Pro TV equips new 20-camera UHD OB van with Sony technology

Romanian Pro TV to integrate Sony technology into new OB van

Sony has announced that Pro TV, the Romanian television broadcaster belonging to the CME Media and Entertainment network, has acquired a new OB van along with a comprehensive range of Sony products. The solution combines Sony’s latest live production technologies to create an integrated workflow designed to meet the demands of modern television production, as the company has claiemd in a statement.

The new OB van, which is expected to go into service by the end of 2026, will feature up to 20 cameras from Sony’s HDC series with native UHD resolution and 20 HDCU-3500 camera control units.

The camera workflow is supported by the HDRC-4000 HDR production converter unit, which is fully integrated into the control network to enable seamless HDR workflows and consistent image quality throughout the production chain.

Two CNA-2 network adaptor units will enhance the system by integrating with third-party equipment and systems, providing greater flexibility in the operation and management of the OB van.

The MLS-X1 live production switcher will provide a flexible and scalable architecture capable of handling a large volume of resources as production requirements evolve.

For image monitoring and mastering, the OB van will be equipped with monitors from Sony’s PVM-X and LMD series. These are designed to provide precise source monitoring and improve mastering quality throughout the production workflow.

“Following the recent delivery of the OB7 by the bodywork manufacturer, PRO TV will carry out the system integration internally. This is an ambitious project that requires extensive technical expertise and attention to detail. Sony’s technology is a natural fit for this project, reflecting our extensive experience with the reliability and performance of its equipment,” comments Bogdan Andreescu, Technical Director at PRO TV.

“By bringing this complete range of Sony equipment together in a purpose-built mobile production environment, PRO TV will be able to take full advantage of the technology and its integrated workflows. We are delighted that the broadcaster has chosen us once again and look forward to seeing this technology bring many inspiring moments to life in broadcasts,” comments Norbert Paquet, Director of Live Production at Sony Europe.

The impact of the new equipment is expected to be significantly greater within the dedicated OB van than through improvised or temporary setups, as the integrated system has been designed from the outset to maximise operational efficiency, flexibility and production quality.
