Digital Domain partners with AWS to scale virtual human technology and introduces AI-driven features

Digital Domain, a global company specialized in visual effects and immersive experiences, has announced a major collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to scale its Autonomous Virtual Human (AVH) technology by migrating it to the cloud. Known for pioneering advancements in virtual human technology for nearly two decades, Digital Domain’s new partnership with AWS is set to enhance the functionality and accessibility of its AVH platform, with applications across industries including entertainment, gaming, healthcare, hospitality, and more.

This partnership represents a significant step forward for Digital Domain, especially following the introduction of Zoey, the revolutionary virtual human launched in 2022. AWS’s cutting-edge cloud services, including Amazon Bedrock, will be key in driving real-time interaction capabilities of virtual humans. Amazon Bedrock’s high-performance foundation models enhance AVH’s interactivity, while Amazon Polly will be used to improve voice output, and Amazon Rekognition is being explored for facial recognition and video-based services. AWS’s secure cloud infrastructure will provide Digital Domain with the necessary tools to scale its technology globally, while ensuring the integrity and protection of its data.

In collaboration with technology consulting firm Slalom, Digital Domain has already completed the migration of all AVH workloads to AWS within just nine months. This migration has enabled the company to scale its AVH technology to meet increasing demand for AI-powered, real-time customer interactions on a global scale.

Daniel Seah, CEO of Digital Domain, emphasized the importance of the partnership: “This collaboration with AWS marks a significant milestone for Digital Domain and our ambitions in virtual human technology. By migrating our Autonomous Virtual Human technology to the cloud, we are not only enhancing its scalability and performance but also expanding its accessibility to a global audience. AWS’s involvement is instrumental in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, enabling us to create even more immersive and interactive experiences for our clients and their audiences.”

By leveraging AWS’s infrastructure, Digital Domain aims to make its AVH technology more flexible, efficient, and scalable. This enhanced accessibility will allow businesses worldwide to integrate virtual humans into various sectors, from hospitality and healthcare to entertainment, offering personalized, real-time interactions. For example, companies could deploy AVH technology for virtual concierge services, customer support, or interactive storytelling, providing unique and engaging experiences for consumers.

Samira Bakhtiar, General Manager of Media & Entertainment, Games, and Sports at AWS, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are thrilled to collaborate with Digital Domain in this transformative journey to the cloud. As virtual humans play a larger role across industries to engage directly with customers, Digital Domain is ensuring that everyone has access to its visionary AVH technology by combining it with the most secure, extensive, and reliable global cloud infrastructure, as well as AWS’s generative AI and ML services.”

This partnership also positions Digital Domain to set new standards in sectors like hospitality and travel. As part of its collaboration with Plaza Premium Group, a global leader in airport lounge services, Digital Domain’s AVH technology will soon enhance customer service experiences in airports worldwide.

By integrating advanced AI and machine learning tools from AWS, Digital Domain is poised to redefine the virtual human experience. This collaboration will drive the future of interactive entertainment, customer engagement, and immersive storytelling across multiple industries, both companies signaled.
