RTVE equips three new OB vans with Ateme’s satellite contribution technology

RTVE selects Ateme’s Titan Edge for three new transportable production units

Ateme has announced that Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has selected its Titan Edge platform, through system integrator Broad Service. This initiative aims to deliver an integrated satellite contribution solution built on the Titan Edge software platform for three new transportable production units, as the company has claimed in a statement.

Designed for demanding live contribution environments, the deployment leverages a highly integrated architecture that delivers broadcast-grade performance while simplifying field operations and ensuring maximum reliability.

Each vehicle is equipped with a fully redundant 1+1 transmission and 1+1 reception chain. On the transmit side, Titan Edge combines UHD/HD encoding and DVB-S2/S2X modulation within a single ruggedized 1RU appliance. On the receive side, it combines professional satellite demodulation and IRD decoding within the same compact appliance, supporting both UHD and HD contribution workflows.

Unlike traditional satellite contribution architectures requiring multiple dedicated devices, Titan Edge consolidates critical broadcast functions into two integrated platforms. By combining encoding and modulation on the transmit side, and satellite demodulation and IRD decoding on the receive side, the solution simplifies installation, reduces cabling and streamlines field operations while maintaining the robustness required for live production.

A key differentiator of the solution is its integrated front panel, developed with the intention of enabling operators to monitor live video, configure services and perform satellite carrier alignment directly from the equipment. By eliminating the need for external monitoring devices during deployment, it simplifies installation and accelerates on-site operations, an important advantage for fast-paced live production.

Because Titan Edge is software-based, the platform can evolve over time through licensing. “Broadcasters are looking for simpler, more integrated contribution infrastructures without compromising reliability”, explains Julien Mandel, Senior Solution Marketing Director, Contribution & Distribution, Ateme. “By integrating encoding, modulation, satellite reception and decoding into compact platforms, Titan Edge reduces operational complexity while providing the resilience required for live contribution. It also gives customers the flexibility to evolve their systems through software as operational needs change”.

As the system integrator for the project, Broad Service designed and delivered the complete integration of the solution within RTVE’s new transportable production units.

“RTVE required a highly reliable and operationally efficient satellite contribution solution capable of supporting demanding live production workflows”, comments Ivan Olmeda, CEO of Broad Service. “The functional integration offered by Titan Edge, together with its software architecture and ease of operation, made it an excellent fit for this project”.
