DAZN has announced the acquisition of Basket.TV, a basketball streaming service operating primarily across the LATAM (‘Latin America’) region. This initiative looks forward to expanding the platform’s basketball rights portfolio, broadening the group’s footprint in Latin America, and creating new opportunities for fans, leagues and partners, as it has claimed in a statement.
Founded as a specialist basketball streaming service in 2020, Basket.TV has presence across Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay. The platform broadcasts around 4,900 matches each season across more than 300 teams, covering domestic leagues in the markets in which it operates as well as selected international club competitions.
DAZN’s basketball portfolio already includes content from the NBA and select constituent teams, NCAA college basketball, Super League Basketball, LNB Élite, Liga Endesa, and Copa del Rey, as well as from the multi-year partnership with FIBA, which includes the FIBA Media joint venture. In the US, DAZN has recently entered local rights partnerships to stream content from the Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies, Charlotte Hornets, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, NY Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, and Washington Mystics.
Shay Segev, CEO of DAZN Group, notes: “Basket.TV has built a high-quality basketball platform with top-tier domestic rights, deep market expertise and an impressive technology operation. This acquisition significantly strengthens our global basketball proposition and supports our broader growth ambitions across Latin America. Together, we’ll create great value for fans, leagues and partners while continuing to grow the sport around the world”.
